This St Patrick's Day, Executive Pastry Chef Joanne Flaherty is delighted to share with you one of her favourite recipes Irish recipes for Guinness Brown Bread. 

This delicious bread is traditionally served with Irish Stew or Seafood Chowder or simply enjoy with Kerrygold Butter washed down with a glass of Guinness!

Guinness Brown Bread

300g wholemeal flour 

40g oatmeal

1/4 tsp salt 

20g Kerrygold Butter

100 ml black treacle 

1 1/4 tsp bread soda 

1/14 tsp brown sugar 

mixed seeds/oats 


Preheat oven to 170o C 

Weigh out all dry ingredients in a bowl and rub in the butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs 

Add milk, treacle, Guinness, mix to a wet sloppy batter 

Divide the batter between 2 well greased 1lb loaf tins or 1 x 2 lb loaf tin, sprinkle on some oats or mixed seeds 

Bake at 170o C for 40 minutes, remove from the overn and cool on a wire rack until needed.
